Cherie Wilkinson, Co-owner, Chair
Smithville, Texas
As the co-owner of Spiradrill, Cherie has been an energetic force behind Spiradrill’s success since she first joined the company in 1994. In those early years, she assisted founders Jerry and Barbara Wilkinson in the office with account management. When her late husband, Chip, took over the family business, Cherie took on Spiradrill’s community outreach and support efforts.
Through Cherie’s leadership, community service has become core to the Spiradrill culture. The company is actively engaged in the Bastrop and Smithville communities, regularly supporting well over a dozen organizations annually. In addition to financial support, she gives a significant amount of time to local organizations, from volunteering office support to putting on annual fund-raisers. With her support over the past 10 years, Feed the Need Missions has been able to grow its annual fund-raiser, The Beyond Gala, to over $178,000 in 2021.
Cherie is also the chair of the Chip Wilkinson Memorial Scholarship Fund, which launched in 2021-22, and will provide $20,000 annually to students pursuing trade and engineering careers.
Richard Cabrera, CPA, CGMA, MBA
Austin, Texas
For more than two decades, Rick has served as a successful senior operational and financial executive with a proven track record of growing companies in terms of revenue, profitability, and quality of personnel. Most recently, he served as the Chief Financial Officer for Academic Programs International, which provides study abroad opportunities in 26 countries for 4,000-plus students annually. He has also held CFO or COO titles for GCR Inc., Prologic Technology Systems, Surveying & Mapping Inc., Texas Disposal Systems, and Lone Star Medical Transcription Services.
Rick is a decisive leader who excels in fast-paced environments requiring broad experience in domestic growth strategies, operational excellence, and innovative ways of solving challenging business problems. Particularly, he provides Spiradrill with expertise in banking relations and treasury risk management, budgeting and cost analysis, corporate and investment finance, revenue and profit optimization, growth expansion strategies, and organizational leadership and team building.
Jim Hines
Kerrville, Texas
Jim retired in 2020 following a successful 43-year career in the oil and gas industry. He began his career in manufacturing with Gray Tool Company and held senior global management positions at Veto Gray, GE Oil & Gas, and, most recently, with Expro Group where he was the Global Director of Supply Chain and Facilities.
For Spiradrill, Jim brings extensive international experience in various roles including manufacturing, Six Sigma certification, supplier quality and development, execution procurement, strategic sourcing, inventory management, logistics, import/export control, supply chain compliance, asset equipment management, and facilities and IT management.
Over his career, Jim led the development of supply chain and facilities functions across multiple businesses with a focus on creating a sustainable foundation of processes and procedures in addition to staff development to support the business’ delivery of key objectives for bottom-line growth and shareholder value.
Mohan S. Kharbanda, MBA
Austin, Texas
Mohan is a seasoned executive with a successful track record of managing businesses within multiple Fortune 100 companies. He has served vice president roles at technology giants Dell, Inc. and Apple, Inc., and served as the CEO of Lineage Power, Pvt, India. Mohan has also held key leadership positions in both emerging and developed markets and has built and operated Greenfield businesses in Brazil, India, China, and Japan.
To Spiradrill, Mohan brings over 35 years of experience in P&L management, corporate turnarounds, business strategy, acquisitions, startups, and off-shoring. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology and received his MBA from the University of Minnesota – Carlson School of Management. Mohan has been a guest speaker for the executive marketing program at the Columbia Graduate School of Management and has advised the governments of Ghana, Bangladesh, Mexico, and Nepal through World Bank.
Steve Vandegrift
Austin, Texas
During his extensive career, Steve has led several technology companies through startup or turnaround to significant revenue growth, profitability, and liquidity events. He is a serial entrepreneur and currently is CEO of Mascot Media, Inc., a company he purchased in the mobile applications space for high school sports. Prior to Mascot Media, Steve was a co-founder and CEO for Pipeline Success, Inc., and served as Managing Director of Techxas Ventures.
Steve also brings substantial experience in the financial industry beginning his career with Chase Manhattan Bank where he held advancing management and information technology positions at two divisions. He has also served 7 years on the Federal Reserve Bank Board of Directors (San Antonio branch), the last 3 years as Chairman. Additionally, he has served on the boards for the Austin Software Council, and the Austin Chamber of Commerce, and been an advisor to Austin-area technology companies including MI7, Quantum Interface, and Consero Global.
